Celebrity Playlists

So iTunes does this thing where every week or every other week they have a celebrity or two share a playlist with people that you can download as a cd or check out individual songs. Sometimes the person will go in great detail and sometimes I think they have someone do it for them. Well this week Kate Hudson made a playlist that I was pleasantly surprised by. It's actually pretty good and thought out. She isn't picking songs that promote herself or one of her movies. (with the exception of her ex-husbands band , which doesn't seem as bad to me).
She does have a new movie coming out so that's why they picked her but the songs themselves seem like songs she genuinly likes.
I could be wrong....
The first song is Arcade Fire which is a solid choice and made me actually read her comments, which were more than one word sentences. I really appreciate people who take the time to think about songs they really love and be honest about and it and want to share great music with people.
The one thing that sucked about her playlist was it didn't really provide any NEW music I haven't heard of but that's ok.
... and it doesn't hurt if they enjoy the same kind of music I do. :)

So here is Kate's list...

1. Arcade Fire - Keep The Car Running
2. Coldplay - The Scientist
3. Bob Dylan Simple Twist of Fate (Live)
4. Bon Iver - Skinny Love
5. Neil Young - Pardon My Heart
6. All I Need - Radiohead

9. MGMT - Time to Pretend
10. Bend Folds - You Don't Know Me (feat. Regina Spektor)

My Opinion of Grammy Nominations

MY PICKS AND OPINIONS FOR THE 2008 GRAMMYS

Category 1
Record Of The Year
(Award to the Artist and to the Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s), if other than the artist.)

Chasing Pavements - Adele: Deserves it, she has a great voice and this song reminds me of Amy Winehouse without the drugs.

Viva La Vida - Coldplay: I love Coldplay but with all the controversy over this song I don't think it will win. Also it isn't the best song on the album.

Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis: I think people hyped her up too much. She was practically spoon fed too us. I think people are already sick of her unoriginal song... then again it's pop fans we are talking about.

Paper Planes - M.I.A: My pick, I had this cd forever before discovering I loved this song. It's original without being pretentious. It's fun AND well-constructed.

Please Read The Letter - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: blah, this is on the list to make the Grammy's look like they care about more than just pop (when they really don't)

Influenced By Something More Than This

“If music be the food of love, play on; give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, the appetite may sicken and so die.”
-Shakespeare

I have been listening to a lot of classical music lately
some classics, some random orchestras, some christmas music...
I have been reading a lot so I can put this on when I read
and not be distracted.

15 days

So my latest obsession....(in music) Is the Twilight soundtrack.
I was pretty skeptical at first. I mean really skeptical but it has definitely grown on me.
I was kind of mad though because I bought it at borders and it turn out
the iTunes version has more songs and it's cheaper.

So my favorite songs from the album so far.... MuteMath- Spotlight (Twilight Mix)
and also the Rob Pattinson song Never Think. I was pleasantly surprised by his
musical abilities. He sounds like an authentic singer/songwriter type.

Some reasons I was hesitant about listening to this was because I don't really listen to people
like linkin park but there song wasn't AS predictable as I thought it would be.

Bella's Lullaby was kind of a dissapointment for me and I think a lot of other people.
It doesn't fit the mood that is captured in the book.
This version seems dark and gloomy.... but not in a sweet "good vampire" type of way
(if that makes any sense).
I heard they asked Rob to write it but he refused. I don't blame him.
A lot of people are mad about of lot of things already. Personally I like their choices
of actors for the movie (for the most part). But I saw the preview before I read the books.

Anyway I think the Soundtrack is worth listening to (maybe more than once)

We’re finally soaking up

my first blog being 21! How exciting. I love October, I really do and not just because of my birthday. I love the leaves I love the coldER weather, I love drinking hot drinks like pumpkin spice latte's and hot apple cider. It sounds cheesy but I think small things DO matter.
Ok so moving on to music.
wait let me change the song on my itunes so I can get in the mood :)

So my rave for the day.....or week. Pitchfork...you make me sad. First of all I am very confused because everyone loves radiohead SO much. I decide to download... couldn't really get into them. A few months later I read a review of OK computer on pitchfork who gave it a 10.0 (perfect score). I get the cd thinking it will be the most amazing thing my ears have ever listened to. WRONG. Only one song caught my attention really, and that was Electioneering.
Is there something wrong with me or is this band HIGHLY overrated?

ok so onto a much lighter & happier note!

So someone gave me the Nick & Norah soundtrack for my birthday. The movie was cute but the soundtrack made it so worth it. I guess the music was basically a main character. I really like a lot of the tracks but my favorite by far is After Hours by We Are Scientists. I have listened to these guys in the past but this has to be their best song.
"Say That You'll Stay!" So uplifting, heartwarming, makes me tear up. I just want to jump out of my seat and declare my love! The rest of the song just build up to this and is equally makes my heart ache. The lyrics are simple but don't need to be anything more. There is so much emotion behind this song and the lyrics are just there to hint at the bigger picture.
I just love it.
